Good nutrition is very important for puppies. They will grow fast and important parts of their bodies will form like their joints, teeth, immune system, and nervous system. It is essential that your puppy gets all the nutrients it needs to support such rapid growth. We stock a carefully chosen range of high-quality foods specifically formulated to support puppies during this crucial developmental phase. We also stock grain-free puppy food as a higher proportion of young dogs seem to be sensitive to grains in their food.
Puppies are usually weaned when they are about 6 weeks old. For the first few weeks, it is a good idea to soften dry food before they eat it whilst they get used to chewing and swallowing solid food. If you are feeding enough your puppy should grow rapidly but not be fat. This is especially important for giant breeds and Labradors - overfeeding increases the chance of joint problems in later life. If you are unsure that you are feeding with the right quantity, then take your puppy to the vet for regular weigh-in sessions and weight checks. Small dog breeds stop growing after 10-12 months and large breeds after 13-18 months. At this point, you should switch them to adult dog food.
